Our season officially ends on October 22nd this year, that’s when we stop reserving every weekend for classes. From there on out the weather gets a little dicey and we get the itch to move to warmer climates. Jane and I are taking a couple to the Bahama’s in November but Cap’n Laurel returns from the Caribbean this week, and Cap’n G will be available to teach, weather permitting, until late November by appointment only. We will also be offering classroom only classes in Coastal Navigation (ASA 105) in November and December. Cap’n Rick is leaving this week for Mexico where we hope to schedule a couple of classes and cruises down there later this winter on board the S/V Tea Leaves, their 54′ ketch. We wish Darci and Rick fair winds and following seas and look forward to working with them when they come back next spring. Of course we will have to go visit soon! Jane and I are still working out the details and will offer classes down in the Caribbean in January/February 2012. I already have 3 ASA 104′s on the books for October and a couple of ASA 103′s that we are trying to get [...]

Just a little note to say we survived the hurricane and are teaching classes as I write this. We are going to update this section of our website a bit more often in the future. We have been updating Facebook, but not here, that will change. We’ve had an exceptional season and are looking forward to the fall and some cooler temperatures. We will be offering more classes this fall and and winter, look for more updates as soon as we work out the details. Captain Gary, Captain Laurel, Captain Rick, Jane and I thank you for your support this year and we look forward to sailing with you again soon.

East Carolina Sailing School, based at historic Havens Wharf in Washington, NC is honored to announce it has been selected to receive an Outstanding Sailing School of the Year award for 2010, recognizing the excellence of the sailing instructional programs offered at the school. The award is given annually by the American Sailing Association (ASA), the governing body for sailing schools. Awards are based on surveys completed by graduating students. Since ASA has over 300 sailing schools worldwide, being recognized as one of only a handful of schools selected for this award is a truly meaningful distinction. The award is calculated based on responses from actual customers, so only those schools who consistently excel in the quality both of their educational product and customer service can achieve this designation. East Carolina Sailing School is proud to rank among ASA’s very best.

East Carolina Sailing is now offering ASA Cruising Classes out of Pungo Creek Marina near Belhaven, NC which gives us a more central location to destinations around the Pamlico Sound. We look forward to the stronger winds and various routes up and down the Pungo River and the sounds of North Carolina. New Video! Come Sail Away I took this video during an ASA 103 class held on the Pungo River last Saturday. We were on our way down to Rose Bay at the mouth of the Pamlico Sound and on a close reach. We will post pics and videos from our classes here in the Scuttlebutt section of the site, please feel free to leave us any feedback here!
